Our Rotakids are M.A.D (Making A Difference). Our Rotakids group, made up of pupils from years 5 and 6, was established in April 2021 with David and Tony from the Brighouse Rotary Club. The aim of the club is to build a sense of community and charity within our school, and since its inception, the Rotakids have supported a number of charities:

Through bun sales, paper plane competitions, badge sales, merchandise sales, art exhibitions and sponsored walks Rota Kids have raised well over £3000 for their chosen charities.
As well as their charity activities, they have planted flowers and bulbs on our grounds, made Christmas cards for the elderly residents of Sandholme Fold and packed ‘Brave Boxes’ for refugee children who seek support from the Calderdale Valley of Sanctuary.
The Rotakids has become a well-established group who enjoy doing good things to support others and learn about how their help (no matter how small) can make a difference.

To celebrate the success, representatives from Overgate Hospice visited us this week to receive a giant cheque. They were joined by special guest Harold the Hare, who brought plenty of excitement to our whole‑school assembly.
Chelsea Holt-Conway, Community Fundraiser for Overgate Hospice, shared her thanks with our pupils, saying, “We are very pleased to receive such a generous donation. It makes us all so proud when everyone comes together like this to raise such a huge amount and to raise awareness of what we do, especially among young people.”
The event was organised by our RotaKids, a group of dedicated Year 5 and 6 pupils whose motto is Making a Difference. Established in partnership with David Taylor and Tony Perryman from the Brighouse Rotary Club, the group has been active since 2021. Speaking about the ongoing partnership, they said, “It is our pleasure to support the RotaKids. We have been supporting them for five years, and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved.”

We would also like to give a special mention to Arthur (Year 6), who raised an impressive £288 on his own by encouraging his family and neighbours to get involved. Arthur received a gift voucher from the Rotary Club to recognise his outstanding effort. He told us, “Everyone on my whole street was so nice.”
Bella, a Year 6 RotaKids member, added, “I feel proud of our achievement and everybody that got involved, and I am excited for the next event.”

We hope this brilliant fundraising effort inspires even more pupils, families and members of our local community to take part in future events.
Co-Head Teacher, Mrs Hustler, said,“We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their compassion, determination and sense of community shown through this fantastic fundraising effort. Raising over £4,000 for Overgate Hospice is an extraordinary achievement and truly reflects the values we aspire to at Lightcliffe CofE Primary School. We are delighted to support Overgate Hospice and grateful for the opportunity to help raise awareness of the vital care they provide. Moments like this remind us of the positive impact young people can have, and we look forward to building on this success in future fundraising events.”

Our amazing Rotakids marked the end of a successful fundraising year with a special presentation lunch at Lightcliffe Golf Club. Seated among the Rotarians, they enjoyed a buffet lunch, shared highlights of their work, and performed their uplifting Make A Difference song.
The atmosphere was warm and cheerful, with Rotarians praising the confidence and enthusiasm of our pupils. A big thank you to David and Tony for their weekly leadership and for inspiring our young people to serve with heart and commitment.
